Aaron Oom, PhD

Principal Scientist

Aaron Oom, PhD, is a principal scientist at the Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies.

Oom’s research focuses on identifying human- and mouse-derived antibodies specific to viral entry proteins. These neutralizing antibodies have the potential to treat and prevent viral infections and offer an opportunity to clinically intervene where effective vaccines and antivirals are not currently available.

Oom completed his bachelor’s in 2016 at Michigan State University in biochemistry and molecular biology before heading to the University of California San Diego for his PhD in biomedical sciences studying basic virology and proteomics in HIV and SARS-CoV-2. Following the end of his doctoral work in 2021, Oom moved to New York University for his postdoctoral fellowship where he studied human immune responses to the mpox vaccine, MVA-BN. This viral immunology cross-training is what drives much of the Oom group’s interests today.
